Liverpool Lax Community to Raise Funds for Box Lacrosse Arena

Monday, March 16, 2015

The Liverpool lacrosse community is hoping to score a game-winning goal this spring.

The Liverpool Youth Lacrosse Association (LYLA), along with the Liverpool High School boys and girls lacrosse programs, are coming together to raise money for the construction of a new box lacrosse arena at LHS.

The box lacrosse arena would be used for a variety of activities in the Liverpool Central School District and the community at large. The district will be able to create an in-house lacrosse program for students at all grade levels, while the community will use the box lacrosse arena for clinics, camps, local tournaments, festivals, alumni games, practices, pick-up lacrosse games and guest speakers.

The goal is to improve the quality of lacrosse for the youth of Liverpool.

“Programs that have the use of a box arena have really gone to another level,” said John Sardella, long-time coach and supporter of Liverpool lacrosse. He noted that the Penn Yan, Homer and West Genesee school districts all utilize box lacrosse arenas in their communities.

The Liverpool lacrosse community hopes to build its box lacrosse arena by 2017, but construction could begin sooner if their fund-raising goal is reached ahead of schedule. The cost of the arena is an estimated $25,000 to $75,000 depending on the final design and construction option chosen.

Community members interested in donating money to help build the new box lacrosse arena have a number of options to do so, including an upcoming golf tournament, advertising signage and monetary donations.

Proceeds from the annual Gotta Believe Liverpool Lacrosse Golf Tournament, which was established in memory of Coach Dan Spillett, will be used to construct the new box lacrosse arena at LHS. The tournament will be held Sunday, May 31, at the Liverpool Golf and Country Club. Foursomes cost $400 and registration forms can be found on the LYLA Web site at Registration, with payment, is due by May 1. Hole sponsorships also are available by contacting John Sardella (657-7698) or Margaret Sardella (430-4210).

In addition, community members will have advertising opportunities through the purchase of signage along the perimeter of the box lacrosse arena. Advertising dollars collected will support the construction of the arena, fees for yearly maintenance & upgrades, and expenses for participants facing financial hardship.

For more information in regards to making a donation or purchasing advertising signage, contact John Sardella at 657-7698 or Information regarding additional fund-raising opportunities will be posted on the LYLA Web site at
