Monday, November 28, 2016
Seven members of the Liverpool High School boys varsity cross country team have been selected to participate in the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) to be held December 3 in Portland, Oregon.
Selected to travel to Oregon were senior Ty Brownlow, senior Stephen Schulz, senior Josh Hickmott, junior Emil Videman, sophomore Dawson Newbern, sophomore Nathan Reeves and junior Cullen McLaughlin.
The students qualified after competing during the Nike Cross New York Regional this past weekend, where the team placed second. Individually Brownlow placed first, Schulz placed second, and Hickmott placed 9th. This is the fourth year in a row that LHS students have qualified for nationals.
Members of the LHS Girls Varsity Cross Country also completed at the Nike Cross New York Regional, with the team placing 10th. LHS freshman Jenna Schulz missed individual qualification for nationals by one spot (she placed 9th overall)
In all, 22 7-person club teams from across the country will compete during the Nike Cross Nationals, which will be broadcast live on the event’s Web site (http://nxn.runnerspace.com/). The boy’s championship race begins at 2:35 p.m. EST.
"This has been another fantastic season for our runners," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark F. Potter. "Congratulations to these outstanding student athletes and Coach Tracey Vannatta!"
