LHS Music Department to Host Annual Band Festival on March 11

The Liverpool High School Music Department will present the annual LHS Band Festival on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. in the LHS Auditorium (4338 Wetzel Road, Liverpool).
The LHS Band Festival will feature Dr. David Waybright, director of bands at the University of Florida, as guest conductor. Waybright received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees at Marshall University and his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. At the University of Florida, he holds the rank of professor, is the head of the conducting area, directs the wind symphony, and supervises the band program and the graduate and undergraduate conducting curricula. Waybright is in demand as a guest conductor and clinician with wind bands, orchestras, and choirs, and has appeared in that capacity in most of the 50 states, throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. He is an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association where he serves on the board of directors and is a lifetime member of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. He also is a member of the College Band Director's National Association, Music Educators National Convention and Florida Music Educators Association.
The LHS Symphonic Band (directed by Joseph L. Filio), the LHS Concert Ensemble (directed by James R. Dumas) and the LHS Concert Band (directed by Stephen A. Salem) will perform. The program includes Thomas Doss’ Momentum, Brian Balmages’ Gravity Wave, Andrew Boysen’s All the Pretty Little Horses, John Zdechlik’s Chorale and Shaker Dance, Henry Fillmore’s The Footlifter and Philip Sparke’s Sunrise at Angel’s Gate.
Tickets will be available at the door and will cost $4 for adults, $3 for students/senior citizens and $10 for a family rate.
