LHS Annex Students Win at National History Day Regional

Students from the Liverpool High School Annex were honored during the 2017 National History Day lhsnationalhistoryday2Central New York Regional competition on March 11 at Onondaga Community College.

“Taking a Stand in History” was the theme for this year’s competition, and students created projects in five categories - exhibit, Web site, documentary, papers and performance.

Receiving honors were:

Junior Individual Exhibit Category

  • Second Place: Braedon Rheaume - Martin Luther; Taking a Stand in History

Junior Group Exhibit Category

  • Second Place: Curt Merrick and Nicholas Reed - The Berlin Wall

Junior Individual Documentaries

  • Second Place: Amiya Widger - Simon Wiesenthal: Impacting the Lives of Holocaust Survivors and Others Around Him

Junior Group Documentaries

  • First Place: Jenna Schulz, Emily Salanger and Julia Schewe - The Warsaw Ghetto: Taking a Stand Against the Nazis
  • Second Place: Abbey Nettle, Morgan White and Helen Nash - Klimt Masterpieces, Major Court Cases and Maria Altmann

  • First Place: Gabrielle Pelkey - Sophie Scholl: Taking a Stand Against Hitler
  • Second Place: Paige Hnatko - Taking a Stand: The Senate vs. Caesar

  • First Place: Mercy Infante, Shiann Fenton and Emily Williamson - Feminism in the Renaissance; Taking a Stand in History
  • Second Place: Justin Ciron, DJ Rice, Connor Wiegand and Erich Hyde - Genghis Khan; Taking a Stand in History

Junior Individual Performance

  • First Place: Lillian Lemery - The Russian Revolution of 1917: Taking a Stand Against the Government

Junior Group Presentation

  • First Place: Lea Prusinowski, Cameryn Lucia and Elizabeth Clark - Annie Besant Through the Ages

The students are now qualified to compete during the New York State National History Day Competition in Cooperstown on April 24.
