LHS Annex Holds Second Annual Liverpool Poster Contest
Thursday, May 30, 2019 -
Liverpool High School Annex library media specialist Norm Bagley and art teacher Caitlin Reeves agree that combing art and poetry will help foster the creativity of their students. That is why the pair decided to once again collaborate on the Liverpool Poster Project.
To kick off the contest, Bagley introduced Annex freshmen to the world of haiku, very short poems in the English language, and challenged them write a few of their own. The students were then asked to create a poster by selecting a haiku written by another student and interpreting it in digital art form using Adobe Photoshop during class with Reeves.
LHS Annex freshmen voted for the top five posters from each of Reeves’ five art classes. The Top 25 were displayed throughout the month of April in honor of National Poetry Month, and contest winners (both the haiku writer and the poster creator) were determined from those posters:
- First Place: Courtney McCabe and Aleseya McDaniel
- Second Place: Kylei Cavelino and Kesice Neal
- Third Place: Skylar Sobolewski and Skye Cronin
- Honorable Mention: Bailey Clouse and Qing Jin
- Honorable Mention: Mohammad Yousuf and Hang Le
