Band Festival’s Guest Conductor Works with LHS Musicians
Over the years, Liverpool High School musicians have had the opportunity to work with a number of amazing conductors and composers that have enriched their knowledge of music and ability to perform. That was true once again as members of the LHS Symphonic Band, Concert Ensemble and Concert Band prepared for the 32nd annual Liverpool High School Band Festival.
Guest conductor James Tapia spent two days rehearsing with students to prepare for the festival that was held on March 9. Tapia is the director of orchestral activities and associate professor of music at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music. He also conducts the SU Symphony Orchestra and teaches in the school’s graduate conducting program in orchestral conducting. He began his professional conducting experience with the Tampa Bay Symphony as assistant conductor and has conducted the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Bach Festival Orchestra, the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, and the Dallas Wind Symphony along with many additional guest-conducting experiences.
